Four months after his father's unexpected death, Hamlet the Prince of Denmark remains sunk in despair. His uncle Claudius has taken the throne and married the Queen, Hamlet's mother Gertrude. Discovering that his father's death was no accident but 'murder most foul', Hamlet is torn by conflicting emotions. Should he take his own life, or seek revenge? So the tragedy that has held audiences spellbound for 400 years begins to unfold.

The Abbey Shakespeare Players returned to St Dogmaels for the sixteenth year in succession to perform Shakespeare's most quoted play. Director Linda Kitchen is an internationally-known singer and actress who this year toured Britain as a soloist with Welsh National Opera. The production features original music composed by Richard Morris, performed live.

The magical setting of St Dogmaels Abbey, above the Teifi estuary near Cardigan, provided a perfect backdrop for this tale of love, madness and revenge. The part of Hamlet was played by up-and-coming professional actor Simon Lys.
