Fair is foul and foul is fair
Hover through the fog and filthy air.
Macbeth's ruthless ambition, stoked by his wife, leads him to murder his king and take his place. But guilt and remorse prey on his mind and eventually overwhelm him.
One evening the opening scene, with its witches' incantations, was accompanied by real thunder and lightning - an effect for which we were happy to take the credit!
